Huntsville South: North boundary is HWY 431 South; West boundary is HWY 231 (Memorial PKWY), Martin Road and Redstone Arsenal boundary line; East boundary is Monte Sano and Green Mountain Ridges; South boundary is Morgan and Marshall County Lines.
Huntsville South is a diverse residential area with many shopping areas and small businesses. Bordered on the East by Monte Sano and Green Mountain, the scenery is absolutely beautiful and neighborhoods in the area make best use of the mountains and rolling hills.
With the river to the south, there is a large marina and campground. Ditto Landing Marina and Campground has an interesting history. It was sometime around 1802 to 1804…James (John) Ditto came around the ‘Great Bend’ of the Tennessee River and the point of Chickasaw Island (now Hobbs Island). He landed among friendly Chickasaw Indians in the area known as the Chickasaw Old Fields…today’s Ditto Landing. Ditto established a trading post in 1805 and a ferry in 1807…the same ferry that transported Andrew Jackson and Davy Crockett across the Tennessee River on their way to the Creek Indian War.
